Profacgen Released AP-MS Service for Protein Interaction Research

Apr 25, 2023, 11:40 AM by

Profacgen, a biotechnology company with extensive experience in the study of protein-protein interactions, recently released Affinity- Purification /mass Spectrometry (AP-MS) Service to cater rising research needs.

Analyzing protein interactions can provide insight into functional relationships between proteins. For example, interactions between co-regulated metabolic enzymes can reveal the assembly of higher-order non-covalent protein complexes. Protein-protein interactions can also reveal the relationship between substrates and post-translational modifying enzymes such as kinases, phosphatases, acetyltransferases, and proteases. And studies analyzing protein-protein interactions between hosts and pathogens have yielded new evidence on how pathogens exploit cellular processes for self-replication, division, budding, invasion, and immune evasion. Analysis of protein-protein interactions is orthogonal but complementary to genetic interaction experiments. Both methods provide protein information on protein-protein interactions as well as functional relationships.

AP-MS has become a standard method for discovering protein-protein interactions. The traditional approach combines native protein immunoprecipitation with mass spectrometry detection, however the AP-MS approach uses epitope tags on the bait protein of interest and capture probes to identify cooperating prey proteins without the need for each new bait protein purchase or development of specific antibodies. Furthermore, antibodies against the protein of interest or baits may disrupt protein-protein interactions if the epitope coincides with the protein interface required for the interaction. Affinity tags are the most widely used in yeast, and more than 70% of the expressed proteins can be presented with protein network diagrams, and more than 500 protein interaction complexes can be identified through clustering and network analysis.

As a state-of-the-art protein service provider, Profacgen is dedicated to providing custom protein services in the biological sciences. With extensive experience and expert knowledge in protein interaction assays, Profacgen now provides a wide range of AP-MS services including:
